The Lymphedema Treatment Act, in plain language

Since Jan. 1, 2024, Medicare covers compression supplies for lymphedema. That includes nighttime garments, which were excluded for decades. Most patients have still never been told.

What Changed

A benefit that did not exist before 2024

For years, Medicare paid for lymphedema therapy but not for the garments that hold the results. Patients finished treatment and had no covered way to maintain it. The Lymphedema Treatment Act closed that gap.

  • Daytime garments are covered when prescribed.
  • Nighttime garments are covered, and this is the piece most patients have never been offered.
  • Bandaging supplies used in reduction and maintenance are covered.
  • Replacement garments are covered on a defined schedule, not once and never again.
Ask us to verify your benefit
The number that matters: roughly 4 in 5 maintenance-phase lymphedema patients have never been prescribed a nighttime garment. If you wear compression only during the day, that is a conversation to have with your clinician.

What we do with it

We verify your specific benefit before anything ships, coordinate with your therapist on measurement and documentation, and track your replacement schedule so a garment past its working life gets replaced rather than worn.

Common Questions

LTA coverage questions

Do I qualify?
If you have Medicare and a lymphedema diagnosis with a clinician's prescription for compression, the benefit generally applies. We verify your specific plan before ordering so you are not guessing.
Does it cover nighttime garments?
Yes. This is the single biggest change the LTA made, and it is the one patients are least likely to have heard about. Ask your clinician whether a nighttime garment belongs in your care plan.
How often can garments be replaced?
Replacement is covered on a defined schedule. Compression loses effectiveness as the fabric relaxes, so wearing a garment past its life means wearing something that is no longer doing the job. We track your schedule.
What about custom garments?
Custom garments take 10 to 14 business days in production. We give you that window when you order and plan the shipment around it.
I have commercial insurance, not Medicare. Does this apply?
The LTA is a Medicare benefit. Many commercial plans have followed, but the requirements vary. Call us and we will verify what your specific plan covers.

This page explains coverage in general terms and is not medical or legal advice. Your clinician determines what belongs in your care plan, and your plan determines your specific benefit.
